XI Festival Internacional de Creación Audiovisual de Gijón

L.E.V. eleventh edition shares an eclectic final lineup built upon three pillars: raw intensity, colorful harmony and dystopian aesthetics.

final lineup

L.E.V. Festival is back. Again, it will be held at different spots located in the Laboral Ciudad de la Cultura Art Complex and throughout the city from April 27 to 30. After last year’s tenth special edition, the International Audiovisual Creation Festival from Gijón (Spain) comes with a solid lineup.

The organization is taking a chance on Factory Floor's neo-postpunk, the raw and intense performances of industrial-techno master Samuel Kerridge, and the aggressively hypnotic experimentalist Container. The 2017 edition will bring together A/V collaborations focused on the concept of dystopia. These include Lexachast by Amnesia Scanner & Bill Kouligas together with visual artist Harm Van Den Dorpel, Sirens by Novi_Sad & Ryoichi Kurokawa - a set based on the evocative aesthetic use of raw data from economic recessions. Martin Messier will direct the dialogue between light and sound in Field, and festivalgoers will also have the chance to get a taste of Nicolas Bernier and Alex Augier's synesthetics.

Canadian Kara Lis Coverdale, who released one of the most inspired works of the last few years together with LXV (Sirens), will join forces with Marcel Webber’s MFO and his one-of-a-kind visual imagery. Detroit pioneer John Beltran will share his brand new project, and new avant-garde producers, such as Synkro, IVVVO and Skygaze, will present their fresh material.

Red Bull Music Academy brings Hauschka, whose collaboration with Dustin O’Halloran in the film Lion was nominated for an Oscar for the best soundtrack award. The artist will share his new work, What if, which will be released in March. He will perform it as a Live A/V show with the help of visual artist Florence To.

Byetone and Markus Heckmann will premier an A/V show at L.E.V. 2017. The leader of raster noton will play live Universal Music, to be put out later this year. Visionaries such as Logos or Lorenzo Senni will also step on the stage at L.E.V. festival. The latter brings us Persona, his acclaimed new work for Warp. Other names include Kiki Hitomi from King Midas Sound and the delicate and fascinating sound layers of Canadian Julia Kent. Spaniards Huias, Octuvre and Óscar Sol will also have the chance to share their diverse offerings with the public.

During the festival, attendees will have the opportunity to watch Geometría del Esplendor, the documentary on Esplendor Geométrico’s history. Finally, Installations will once more have an important role to play in this year’s edition with names such as Martin Messier, Olivier Ratsi and Carlos Coronas, among others.

The dissemination of forward-looking minority ideas and approaches needs initiatives like this long-standing Spanish event. L.E.V again shows a profound commitment to underground culture, boosting and embracing new tendencies and experimental genres. In fact, this final lineup is clear proof of it.
