Justinas Mikulskis' set from last year's SPACELOVE event in Moscow is online together with his brief impressions from the evening.
First of all it was my first visit to Moscow. And actually, it has slightly changed my view towards this giant city. Probably this was because of the excellent work of the organisers who not only provided me with a possibility to play at Arma17’s “SPACE LOVE” event, but also guided through the daily life of the city, its rich history and showed the beautiful people living there. Warm, helpful and communicative citizens, splendid architecture, tasty traditional food, clean streets and parks simply invite to dive in and wander through the town. And yes, this was quite an inspiring and good start for the subsequent explorations. Visiting “SPACE LOVE” was a nice opportunity to see nice people, who speak interesting things and radiate with an enormous warmth and truthfulness.
The entrance to Arma17’s surreal place was quite an experience for me. Colossal constructions, mind-blowing decorations and unique installations, which were prepared exclusively for the event, the staff wearing futuristic hand-made costumes made me feel like in a good sci-fi movie and it definitely justified the title of an event - “SPACE LOVE”. I really felt like putting everything I could into this DJ set and transmitting all my energy to this exemplary place and to the lovely and musically curious audience.
After hearing the possibilities of their large soundsystem and witnessing the very accurate work by the sound engineers, the fact that soon I will be playing here caused even more emotions inside me. The sound was pure, warm and even in the arch environment sounded rich, without any kind of resonance. Once again, I’ve realised that this DJ set will be one of these I will never forget. The breathtaking lows, touching mids and clear highs were outstanding. Even static ambient music here could sound completely fresh and manoeuvrable. The volume was maximal and it sounded nicely and allowed to easily communicate with other people.
After close listening to the solid performances by the acts such as Atom™ and Mika Vainio, it was my turn. The play button is on and some kind of musical enlightenment shrouds my mind and the body, the sound smoothly penetrates into the concrete walls of the building and the audiences’ bodies too. This is feeling hard to express. Seems that since the first tones people quickly caught the mood and all the complex dynamics floating through the perfectly-set soundsystem.
I truly wish to believe that this cut from my set will let you experience at least a small part of the energy and aura of this unforgettable event, which took place a year ago. I really recommend everyone to attend the events Arma17 organises around the world. These guys really know how to create a high quality party and how to transmit a transcendent musical experience you will never forget.
