Secret Thirteen Mix 009

Listening Mirror

Listening Mirror lets fourteen records unfold patiently, moving from Jóhann Jóhannsson’s piano-led opening towards a quiet sense of spring. His own work meets Birds of Passage, Coil and Motion Sickness of Time Travel in a gently absorbing sequence.

The author of the mix is Jeff Stonehouse, better known for the British ambient project Listening Mirror. STM 009 is an entirely frank musical selection which mirrors the author’s inner peace and his mellow musical taste. Starting with the modern classical composition by Jóhann Jóhannsson “Part 1 / IBM 1401 Processing Unit”, the artist invites the listener to relax and to start his journey into the unfolding spring season. While the main atmosphere is created with majestic notes, mature and ethereal key sounds recall specific works by Jacaszek and Listening Mirror. The development of the selection is smooth and calm, the author lets selected works play completely, so it becomes a more expositional compilation. Compelling, charming and light compositions at the end of this selection simply confirm that the wholeness of this work is all about sublimity of nature and its harmony.

STM 009 is like the picturesque drawing by Arnulf Rainer and Dieter Roth “Ohne Titel” where blending strokes of warm colour and free-form geometric lines recall flowing water in the awakening nature as a symbol of spring.
