Unsound Festival 2016

Unsound 2016 with its “Dislocation” theme will offer some exceptional intercultural experiences and lots of diverse sounds ranging from drone to PC music.

After the “Surprise” theme in 2015 it was quite difficult to predict the next turn of this always-surprising festival. “Dislocation” seems to be a rather relevant topic stretching the geographic boundaries and scope of the festival even more. The locations stretch from Kyrgyzstan to Vladivostok and hint at possible intercultural adventure we might encounter in Krakow this year. The first portion of the line-up looks exciting and already reveals some exciting collaborations. And that is one of the many things that Unsound is known for.

In 2016’s edition of Unsound, dub techno pioneer Moritz von Oswald will present an exclusive collaboration with Kyrgyz band Ordo Sakhna. Even more exciting is the pairing of Polish Stara Rzeka, a unique collective crafting a charming blend of avant folk, ambient, metal and shoegaze, with Dushanbe’s Samo. Rabih Beaini, who made some excellent appearances in 2015 edition, will be back this year for KAFR, a collaboration with Indonesia’s Senyawa. Also there will be the exclusive live rendition of “In the Heart of the Wolf” project of Ancient Methods and Cindytalk.

The stylistical diversity is also widely present this year as we have artists as diverse as Dean Blunt’s experimental (satyrical?) hip hop project Babyfather, Australian punkish EBM heavyweights Severed Heads, the master of lovely PC music chaos Felicita, and industrial techno innovators Orphx. Further on the bill are Raime, Roly Porter, Veronika Vasicka, Forest Swords and others.
