The original invitation
This is a historical call, preserved for context. Its deadlines and registration instructions are no longer active.
Secret Thirteen officially starts a registration to The Guide 2 competition.
After a first successful The Guide competition that received a proper attention among our audience and especially among the die-hard record collectors Secret Thirteen continues the search of talents who are able to impress with their musical discoveries and narratives.
If you believe that you have collected a vast catalog of records you should register The Guide 2 competition via e-mail till the 1st of November. All you need to do is to send a few words about yourself, links to your activities or past mixes, topic number (see below) and some words why are you interested in participating in The Guide 2. After reviewing your submitted candidature we will send you further details regarding the competition. Five open positions are waiting to place your name.
Secret Thirteen invites you not only to register, but spread the news to your friends and colleagues who have a mature musical taste and kaleidoscopic music collection. We understand that many good selectors spend more time in a record store than on the internet so this is why we need your help to find those hidden masters.
Statement
Every cassettes, vinyl records, CDs collector and music lover now has a chance to present their musical knowledge to the audience all across the globe. Every year in October we will launch an open competition called “The Guide” where every creative participant will have a reliable chance to achieve a place for one’s masterpiece in Guide section. Secret Thirteen never sets the limits to any style frames and that is one of the reasons to take the attention of even snobbish music selectors.

Topics
The second The Guide competition will focus on Metropolitan cities, on their traffic, cultural mixture and millions of stories floating in the polluted air or in the underground.
1. Metropolis Underground – interpretation of isolated places under the city surface, its diverse cultural life (improvisational music players, surprising performances), metro traveling and everything that is related to a mood, when a human enters the underground.
2. Cosmopolitan Metropolis – interpretation of various cultural and ethnic collisions that are happening everyday in the streets of crowded modern city and markets anywhere in the world.
3. Urban ghosts – the interpretation of forgotten urban landscapes and memories/nostalgia lying beneath the cultural surfaces of the city. City as a hauntological and psychogeographical entity full of ghosts, memories, subconscious impulses, dreams.
4. The urban utopia/dystopia – the interpretation of imagined utopian or dystopian urban space (of the future, present or past). The fictional (or maybe real) city of your dreams/nightmares.
Important! Please take your time to analyze our suggested topics and carefully re-think if you are capable to compile and record a conceptual mix that maintains a mood and ideology of one of these topics.
