01Flatlines in Vilnius

Flatlines continues. Staying true to our online content, we try to bring unique artists to form diverse and eclectic line-ups full of contrasting sounds and without any strict stylistic boundaries. The first edition of Flatlines kicked off back in November with excellent shows from EVOL and Internazionale. The event took place at Kablys club – a venue within a building of kitschy monumental Soviet classicism. This used to be the house of culture for railway workers. The first event was a cozy night and EVOL’s intense rave deconstructions with pointillist hoover madness was complemented by the melancholic and lush ambient of Internazionale. It was a small gathering of like-minded people – true music lovers.

On March the 14th we are launching the second installment in the Flatlines series, this time with the wonderful Paper Dollhouse and Duy Gebord, our new discovery from Poland. Once again the names are pretty different from each other. Gebord’s sophisticated lo-fi noisy/IDM constructions will stand next to the lush brilliance of Paper Dollhouse, merging dreamy folk with spacious synthscapes and nocturnal hazy ambience. We have covered Paper Dollhouse quite extensively with an interview, a mix and a review of their excellent tape run, merging post-rave melancholia with ethereal pop. Their sound encompasses the vastness of kosmische music, the subtle secrecy of British landscapes and cityscapes and an elegant pop sensibility at its most refined. They have just released a new album The Sky Looks Different Here on their own Moondome records. Duy Gebord is a young Warsawian, who has impressed us with his digital and tape releases made over the last few years. This is someone who doesn’t spend a lot of time lingering in place, instead opting for constant changes in style, going from ambient and noise to IDM or techno. His latest release, ʤ, came out this year on Pointless Geometry and is a great example of Duy Gebord’s complex and gritty sonic world. His live set should be a surprising and unpredictable affair.
